The Terra Nova River runs right through our community and is home to the finest game fish in the world - the Atlantic Salmon. Come, enjoy its great pools: Penney's, Starlight, Cradle, Doctor's. With an enhancement program in full swing, anglers are dreaming again of 30-pounders, previously common in the Terra Nova tides.
Try for our other premier fish, the shiny sea trout. We have Newfoundland's three best waterways for sea trout: Terra Nova, Maccels, Northwest. The pools are superb! Try Birchy, Indian Brook, First Falls, Gambo, Lower Gambo, Disappointment, Janeses.
To see strong-tide swimming at its best, come to Sandy Beach near the Old Mill. It is one of the most popular and refreshing places in Newfoundland to enjoy a cool swim. But don't venture out with local swimmers unless you're used to battling strong tides rushing toward rough rapids.
There is a little sheltered sandy cove nearby where even young children swim regularly. It's safe enough as long as mom or dad is near as a precaution.
